A striking decorative tureen in glazed faïence, modelled as a large white pumpkin resting on its matching stand.

The lid is adorned with a sculpted stem and relief-modelled leaves, while a matching faïence ladle completes the set.

This piece belongs to the Italian tradition of naturalistic trompe-l'œil ceramics, inspired by the productions of Bassano and the workshops of northern Italy specialising in life-size fruit and vegetable decorative ware.

The mark on the underside of the base indicates contemporary Italian manufacture.

The highly realistic treatment of the rind, the uneven surface relief and the bright glaze give this tureen a strong decorative presence, ideal for a festive table setting or a refined kitchen display.
