Important Bronze "The Thinker" signed Chiparus, Art Deco period – first quarter of the 20th century

Demétre Haralamb Chiparus (1886–1947) was a major Art Deco sculptor, born in Romania and settled in Paris from 1912, where he trained at the Beaux-Arts. Active principally between 1914 and 1933, he became renowned for his chryselephantine sculptures inspired by the Ballets Russes, the music hall and ancient Egypt. Published by the great Parisian foundries, he established a refined, elongated and theatrical style that made him one of the undisputed masters of Art Deco sculpture.
