Important Louis XV-style ceremonial commode in mahogany, gilt bronze and black marble

Exceptional Louis XV-style ceremonial commode in mahogany, richly adorned with chiselled mercury-gilt bronze mounts, surmounted by an imposing top in veined black marble.

The façade comprises two frieze drawers above two doors concealing a generous storage space. The doors are decorated with a spectacular gilt bronze tondo centred on an antique mask, surrounded by arms, standards, quivers, oak-leaf crowns and foliage — emblems characteristic of the royal style.

The fluted detached column uprights are dressed with gilt bronze rings and capitals, and rest on elegant lion's-paw feet, also in bronze.

The piece is surmounted by a thick black marble top with fine white veining, underscored by a finely chiselled bronze gallery.

By virtue of its dimensions, the quality of its mahogany and above all the richness of its bronze decoration, this commode represents a prestige piece, perfectly representative of 18th-century French cabinet-making.

Condition:
Very fine state of preservation. Beautiful wood patina. Minor wear and maintenance restorations consistent with age and use, with no impact on overall presentation. Antique marble in good condition.
