Description

Louis XV Chest of Drawers in Wild Cherry – 18th Century

An elegant chest of drawers in solid wild cherry, opening through three large drawers across the front. This fine provincial piece from 18th-century France captivates with the quality of its timber, its warm patina, and the refined restraint of its decoration.

The drawer fronts are highlighted by elegant shaped mouldings characteristic of the provincial Louis XV style. The cloverleaf-shaped escutcheons and original drop handles in bronze lend a pleasing note of authenticity. The dovetail-jointed drawers bear witness to high-quality traditional craftsmanship.

The chest stands on small, slightly tapered straight feet and features panelled sides. The top is a single plank, showcasing a superb wild cherry grain. The piece retains a fine, aged patina throughout and is in very good condition, with the usual traces of wear consistent with its age.

An elegant, practical and timeless piece of furniture that will sit naturally in both a classical and a contemporary interior.
