Exceptional and important 17th-century Mazarine commode of arbalète form in fruitwood (wild cherry).
This commode comprises:
- 3 drawers over 3 rows
- 3 locks without keys
- All handles and escutcheons in gilt and chiselled bronze with baroque decoration; original iron side handles.
The Mazarine commode is the ancestor of all commodes, constructed in the manner of a chest.
Minor restoration consistent with age and use; the piece retains its original ox-blood red patina — a finish traditionally believed to preserve the wood over time.
This fine piece of furniture comes from a bourgeois residence in South-West France.
