Description

Elegant carved walnut wall console, crafted in the late 19th century in the pure Renaissance taste, featuring a musician putto of exceptional refinement.
The putto, kneeling beneath the shelf, strikes a contemplative and graceful pose, holding a lute against his body. His youthful face, framed by abundant curls, conveys an almost melancholic gentleness, characteristic of angelic figures in the Italian Renaissance tradition.
The delicately spread wings, carved with overlapping layers of broad feathers, lend an ethereal quality to the composition. The wood, patinated to a deep, warm brown, reveals fine chiselling throughout: the folds of the drapery, the anatomical modelling, the texture of the feathers — all bear witness to consummate craftsmanship.
The console itself takes on an architectural form reminiscent of the wall brackets found in Renaissance palaces: a moulded shelf, well-balanced volumes, and a commanding sculptural presence. The overall effect conveys a sense of decorative nobility, ideal for enhancing a classical or eclectic interior.
