Description

Louis DAGE (1885-1963)
Art Deco bowl in glazed ceramic with hazelnut decoration, circa 1930

Elegant ceramic bowl signed by Louis Dage, a prominent figure in French ceramics of the interwar period.

The piece features a naturalistic design of hazel branches adorned with leaves and fruit in light relief, rendered in a delicate palette of greens, browns and mauves against a characteristic clouded blue and cream ground, reflective of the decorative explorations of the era.

The whole is enhanced by a fine coppered metal mount with stylised foliate decoration forming two lateral handles.

The quality of the glaze, the refinement of the decoration and the association with an original metal mount are a perfect illustration of the Art Deco aesthetic of the years 1925–1935.

Manuscript signature Dage beneath the base.

In very fine condition.

Original mount.

A few fine firing craquelures consistent with the age of the piece.

Dimensions:

Width: 20 cm
Height: approx. 7 cm
