Grandjean-Jourdan ceramic set, Vallauris, 'faux bois' decoration with black silhouettes, typical of the workshop's output from the 1950s–1960s.

The workshop is particularly well known for this type of trompe-l'œil decoration imitating varnished wood.

Description

Set of 6 pieces comprising:

1 large decorative vase (height approx. 35 cm)
2 jugs / milk pots
2 matching saucers
1 small dish or trinket bowl with handle

Varnished faux bois decoration with black female silhouettes and a stylised bird.

Incised mark Grandjean-Jourdan Vallauris under the vase.

Period

Circa 1955–1965.

Condition

Good overall condition consistent with age and use.

Some minor traces of age and use visible on the undersides.

Notes

Complete sets are more sought after than individual pieces.

The black silhouette decoration is one of the most recognisable designs from the manufactory and is found on pitchers, coffee services, trays and vases.
