Description

Carved Solid Pine Two-Body Buffet – Late 18th Century

Elegant two-body buffet in solid pine dating from the late 18th century, displaying fine quality carving and a warm patina.

The upper section opens via two moulded doors richly carved with floral motifs, foliate scrolls and grape clusters, surmounted by a remarkable carved central shell. The lower section comprises two frieze drawers and two doors similarly adorned with carved decoration. The shaped lower rail is embellished with carved ornament, lending great character to the piece as a whole.

The panels are flat-banded and framed by elegant mouldings. The hardware and escutcheons are in bronze.

This buffet has retained all the authenticity and charm of its period, with its fine original patina beautifully enhancing the grain of the pine.

Period: Late 18th century
Wood: Solid pine
Origin: South-Eastern mountain region of France
Dimensions: H. 225 cm × L. 150 cm (cornice level) × P. 53 cm

A superb piece of regional furniture, ideal for a characterful home or an interior blending authenticity with elegance.

Judging by the carving — flowers, shell, shaped lower rail — and its construction, this is a mountain-region two-body buffet, possibly Savoyard, dating from the very end of the 18th century (circa 1780–1800).
