An elegant Louis XV Transition style lady's writing desk, opening by means of an upper drawer, a fall front revealing an interior fitted compartment with small drawers, and three drawers to the lower section.

The serpentine front is richly veneered in rosewood laid in crossbanding, highlighted with marquetry stringing.

The fall front is adorned with a charming painted panel depicting a galant scene in the spirit of the 18th century, framed by an elaborate rocaille gilt bronze surround.

The whole rests on cabriole legs dressed with gilt bronze foliate mounts and sabots.

The piece is surmounted by a fine moulded red veined marble top.

The interior reveals a refined fitted arrangement with four small drawers and a central niche, typical of lady's writing desks intended for correspondence.

French work in the Louis XV style, produced in the late 19th century in the manner of Parisian cabinet-making.
