Description

Bordelaise "Arbalète" Chest of Drawers in Solid Mahogany, Louis XV Period, Marble Top

A fine Bordelaise "arbalète" chest of drawers in solid mahogany, of animated serpentine form on all faces, crafted in the Bordeaux region during the second half of the 18th century, Louis XV period.

The façade opens with three drawers arranged in three rows, accentuated by an elegant shaped moulding characteristic of Bordeaux cabinetmaking.

The rails and stiles display a remarkable curved workmanship, lending the piece a particularly harmonious silhouette.

The piece rests on four cabriole legs ending in scroll feet.

It is surmounted by a substantial marble top in cream and ochre tones, following the movements of the carcass with great precision.

The façade reveals a superb flamed and mottled mahogany grain.

The gilt bronze drawer pulls and escutcheons provide a fine decorative accent, complementing the warmth of the wood perfectly.

This chest of drawers elegantly embodies the refinement of 18th-century Bordeaux furniture, renowned for the quality of its exotic timbers and generous forms.
