Large Empire – Restauration period chimneypiece mirror, circa 1820–1840

Important rectangular mirror in its moulded wood frame, richly adorned with stamped and gilt decorative elements.

The outer frieze is animated by confronted griffins, palmettes and foliate motifs, while the inner surround features a succession of finely chiselled rosettes and scrolling acanthus.

The antique glass displays the slight alterations characteristic of 19th-century mirrors, testifying to its authenticity.

With its generous dimensions and elegant gilding, this mirror is a decorative piece of the first order, equally at home in a classical or contemporary interior.
