Description

Important Louis XV period tombeau commode in marquetry, circa 1750

A highly elegant Louis XV period tombeau commode, richly veneered in precious woods and adorned with sumptuous gilt bronze mounts.

This remarkable piece opens with three large drawers set within a bowed facade, enhanced by superb geometric marquetry in a butterfly-wing pattern with contrasting borders, typical of 18th-century Parisian furniture.

The commode stands on cabriole legs ending in bold gilt bronze sabots.

The stiles are decorated with magnificent foliate drops featuring finely chiselled female mascaron masks.

The top is fitted with a beautifully veined marble in warm brown and beige tones, perfectly following the fluid, shaped lines of the piece.

The gilt bronze mounts, abundant and of the highest quality, elegantly accentuate the generous curves of this grand commode:

foliate drawer pulls,
rocaille escutcheons,
shaped central apron,
rich corner mounts.
Exceptionally fine cabinet-making and outstanding decorative presence.

Dimensions:

Width: 135 cm
Height: 89 cm
Depth: 82 cm
Very good overall condition.
Beautiful patina and fine lustre to the finish.
