Dauphinois Commode, Louis XIV Period – Early 18th Century

DAUPHINOIS COMMODE, LOUIS XIV PERIOD – EARLY 18TH CENTURY

A gently bowed commode featuring rich marquetry in a variety of precious wood veneers: olivewood, end-grain wood, amaranth string inlays, walnut, boxwood, and light and dark wood stringing.

Opening with four drawers — two large and two small — with alternating light and dark wood panels.

Dropping bail handles connected by small floral motifs; keyhole escutcheons decorated with griffins, all in finely chiselled gilt bronze.

Sides centred with a lozenge decoration. Rounded uprights with alternating light and dark wood. The rounded front top features a geometric design of circles, spandrels, and a Maltese cross at the centre.

Pine carcass, walnut drawer bottoms. French-polished.
