Description
This watercolor hand colored pastel works which corresponds to CharlesThéodore BROTHER, French Orientalist artist, performed in Egypt. Dimensions 34.5cm/49.5cm. Signed lower left.
T Ch Brother painted scenes of the Middle East only after a trip to Algeria in 1837. In 1851, he visited Turkey, Syria, Palestine and Egypt. During his last trip in 1869, he accompanied the entourage of the Empress Eugenie French in Egypt for the opening of the Suez Canal. Ch T.Frère established a workshop in Cairo and received the title of Bey (Lord) by the Egyptian government. Claude Monet (1840-1926) and Eugène Boudin (1824-1898) were among those who admired Brother for its warm and shimmering light. Like the Impressionists, he painted outdoors for greater visual accuracy, sometimes exaggerating the colors for a dramatic effect.
