Sculpture Art Deco with two German Shepherds – L. Carvin – circa 1930

Art Deco animalier sculpture depicting two German Shepherds, signed L. Carvin on the base.

The composition presents two dogs in contrasting poses: one standing, proud and alert, with ears erect, while the second is shown lying down, mouth open, lending the group a strong sense of life and movement.

Both subjects are rendered in patinated metal, with fine naturalistic treatment of the musculature, coat and expressions.

The group rests on an elegant multi-tiered geometric base in marble and onyx, characteristic of the decorative output of the Art Deco period. The interplay of pale and veined stones contrasts harmoniously with the dark patina of the sculptures.

The base bears the signature "L. CARVIN", corresponding to the French animalier sculptor Louis-Albert Carvin (1875–1951).

A fine decorative piece, typical of the 1920s–1930s, of particular interest for its generous dimensions and two-figure composition.
