Description

Oil on canvas still life signed Eugène Claude, keyed stretcher and gilt frame.

Born into a family of porcelain merchants, Eugène Claude began his career as a porcelain painter. He was a member of the Société des Artistes. He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from the age of twenty in 1861.

Eugène Claude was awarded a 2nd class medal at the Salon des artistes français in 1895 and an honourable mention at the Exposition Universelle de Paris in 1889 and again in 1900. A prolific artist, he submitted some sixty paintings to the Salon over thirty years.

He painted primarily portraits and still lifes of flowers, fruit and animals.
Overall very good condition.
