Description

Two-body cabinet buffet in moulded walnut – Louis XIII period, 17th century

An impressive Louis XIII-style two-body buffet in solid walnut, dating from the 17th century. This piece of fine architectural character features a richly moulded façade comprising four raised-panel doors and three frieze drawers, surmounted by a dentil cornice that lends it a classical elegance and commanding presence.

The piece is entirely crafted in solid walnut with a warm patina acquired over the centuries. The stiles are adorned with restrained carved decoration typical of French craftsmanship of the period, while the doors retain their original ironwork fittings and escutcheons.

The interior, recently lined with red fabric, offers generous storage space arranged across several levels. This lining, easily reversible if desired, enhances the piece while protecting the shelves.

The buffet is in good overall condition. The structure is sound and stable, with the traces of use, old restorations and minor irregularities that are to be expected of a piece more than three centuries old. The back panels, in period oak, confirm its authenticity.

A remarkable 17th-century storage piece, both authentic and decorative, ideal for a characterful home or an interior seeking the charm of antique French furniture.
