Description

Signed brown-patinated bronze by Eutrope Bouret. This Young Girl with a Basket embodies all the naturalistic refinement of French Belle Époque sculpture. The young figure, caught in gentle motion, steps forward with fluid grace, her bare feet resting on a finely textured base evoking a natural ground scattered with foliage. Her soft, focused expression, rendered with great delicacy, conveys a living, almost narrative presence.
The composition is distinguished by the richness of its drapery, whose deep, flowing folds envelop the silhouette with remarkable precision. The girl carries a delicately chiselled basket, while a small bundle, held by straps, rests upon her back — details that bear witness to the extraordinary care Bouret devoted to depicting the simple gestures of everyday life.
The warm, nuanced patina enhances the volumes and interplay of shadows, underscoring the sculptor's technical mastery. The whole radiates a poetic harmony — between meticulous realism and graceful charm — that is characteristic of Bouret's work, highly sought after for its sensitivity and quality of execution.
As much a decorative object of character as a collector's piece, this bronze offers an elegant and timeless presence, ideally suited to enrich a refined interior or a collection of 19th-century sculpture.

Eutrope Bouret (1833–1906) was a French sculptor of the late 19th century, trained in Paris and admired for his graceful female figures and delicately modelled naturalistic subjects. A regular exhibitor at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1875, he was awarded an honourable mention there in 1885 and gained recognition for the fineness of his drapery, the precision of his poses and the poetry of his compositions. The author of bronzes, marbles and terracottas, he left behind a sensitive and elegant body of work, today sought after for the quality of its chiselling and the timeless charm of its figures.
