Description

Large Art Nouveau Statue in Crackle-Glaze Ceramic and Gilt Wood

Circa 1900

An elegant and striking Art Nouveau statue depicting a young Asian woman carrying a shoulder pole suspending two hanging basins.

The figure is crafted in white glazed ceramic with crackle decoration, dressed in a long gown with fluid lines and wearing a wide hat evoking the Far East.

The two receptacles, suspended by chains, are in gilt wood with a braided decoration.

The base, also in gilt wood, features a delicate floral motif.

The ensemble presents a highly decorative silhouette, characteristic of the Orientalist and Art Nouveau aesthetic.

With its substantial dimensions and sculptural presence, this piece makes a remarkable decorative object that may serve as a jardinière, a vide-poche, or simply as a decorative sculpture.
