Pair of Napoléon III period candlesticks
Elegant pair of candlesticks in blackened metal and gilt bronze, raised on a tripod base with rocaille and foliate decoration.

The central column form, refined mouldings, and contrast between the black finish and gilt highlights are characteristic of French production from the second half of the 19th century, in the Napoléon III taste.

The decoration draws on the Louis XV repertoire as reinterpreted under the Second Empire, a style greatly favoured at the time.

The bronze bobeches retain traces of their original gilding.
