Description

Carved oak panel depicting an allegorical female figure
Regionalist work, circa 1925–1930

This carved wood panel depicts a seated nude woman in a stylised landscape.

She holds a rod or sceptre while her left hand pours a stream evoking water or abundance.

At her side stands a heart resting on an altar, a symbolic element that may evoke love, fidelity, or an allegory of sentiment.

The highly geometricised treatment of the foliage, the simplification of volumes, and the overall composition are reminiscent of the Art Deco taste of the 1920s–1930s, even though the execution is that of a regional craftsman or workshop rather than an academic sculptor.

The sculpture is carved from an assembled oak plank.

The central split visible on the panel results from the natural shrinkage of the wood over time.
