Louis XIII Moulded and Carved Walnut Armoire – 17th Century

Important Louis XIII period armoire in solid walnut, opening by two doors richly moulded and adorned with diamond-point panels and geometric rosettes.

This piece presents a powerful and well-balanced architectural form, characteristic of French furniture from the late 17th century.

The doors are enhanced with carved relief panels alternating lozenge motifs and radiating rosettes, framed by wide, deeply cut mouldings.

The stiles are highlighted by long escutcheons and forged iron hinges, lending an elegant touch of authenticity.

The projecting cornice and moulded base resting on bun feet reinforce the monumental presence of this fine regional armoire.

The interior was fitted at a later date with a hanging rail and shelves to meet contemporary storage needs, while retaining its period character.

The walnut displays a superb warm patina in honey and deep brown tones, enhancing the natural grain of the wood.

Condition:
Very good overall state of preservation. Sound and stable structure. Fine period patina. Some marks of use, minor splits and wear consistent with the age of the piece. Original ironwork preserved.
