Table à Ouvrage in Ebonized Wood, Napoléon III Period – 2nd Half of the 19th Century

This Napoléon III-period worktable, crafted in ebonised wood, is distinguished by a delicate marquetry of brass stringing forming refined framing and graceful garlands surrounding a floral vase on the top. Its fall front, fitted with a mirror on the inner face, opens to reveal a compartmented interior designed for the careful organisation of small objects. A frieze drawer is adorned with a chiselled key. The whole rests on four tapering, fluted legs embellished with fine reeded details. These are elegantly connected by a stretcher, lending the piece a harmonious silhouette and a charm that is quintessentially Second Empire, where the refinement of the cabinetmaking is complemented by the delicacy of the brass ornaments.
