This walnut hunt buffet is shaped on three sides, opening by two large-framed doors, generously moulded around the perimeter and fitted with double-banded panels. The splayed sides are equally adorned with substantial sinuous mouldings and double-banded panels. The lower front rail is scroll-cut and carved with a prominent open-work shell from which combs and flowering branches extend on either side. The false stile is decorated at its lower section with a shell, and the uprights are carved with acanthus leaves and small flowers, terminating in volute feet; the rear feet are in demi-volute form. The piece is topped with a bleu turquin marble slab. In good overall condition, this buffet has undergone very little restoration: the lower rear rail has been replaced and the floor board reworked.
Dated 18th century, Provence.
