Description

This Louis XV-style cabriolet armchair, crafted in cream-painted wood in the late 19th century, faithfully reproduces the elegant, scrolled lines of mid-18th-century seating. Its curved back naturally follows the contour of the sitter's spine, while the open-work arms, gently flared and set in line with the back, are positioned set back from the seat rail — in keeping with the defining characteristics of the cabriolet form. The manchettes, now worn, pad the ends of the armrests as is customary on this type of chair.

The entire armchair is upholstered in blue fabric adorned with a polychrome floral bouquet on the seat, back and manchettes, lending a romantically decorative touch. The back and lower cross-rail feature carved flowers reminiscent of the foliage, fleurette and floral-drop motifs typical of the Louis XV style. The four curved and moulded legs extend the serpentine lines of the seat rail in a continuous S-shaped movement, terminating in a shell-like scroll known as a roquillard, characteristic of Louis XV seating.

Sold as found, this armchair retains all the charm of a late-19th-century decorative piece inspired by the refined models of the 18th century — an ideal choice for bringing an elegant and authentic note to any interior.
