These six elegant Italian chairs from the Barocchetto period (1720–1770) are crafted in natural wood. The back, composed of vertical splats with sinuous contours, is in moulded wood bordered by a small cord; its upper section is carved with curves and counter-curves, a small flower and stylised leaves, as well as motifs reminiscent of the French Régence style. The seat is upholstered; the seat rail is shaped and underscored by a cord that tapers off, ending in a small volute at the upper third of the leg, whose tip takes the ungulate form of an animal's hoof from which a few tufts of hair fall. In very fine condition, these chairs have been recently re-upholstered; while the needlepoint tapestry covering them deserves to be replaced, the padding beneath — in perfect condition — should be preserved.
Mid-18th century.
