Bronze "Au Clair de la Lune" signed Bouret – Late 19th century

This charming gilt bronze depicts Pierrot as a musician, captured in a moment of lightness and life. The figure, leaning slightly forward, holds his mandolin close as he sings the celebrated melody *Au clair de la lune*, whose title is inscribed on the base. His expressive face — mouth slightly open, eyebrows raised — conveys all the melancholic tenderness associated with this emblematic figure of popular theatre.
Pierrot's traditional costume, with its wide ruff collar, loose-fitting trousers and feather-adorned hat, is rendered with exceptional fineness of modelling. A particularly captivating and charismatic piece, the sculpture bears the signature Bouret on the base, confirming its attribution to Eutrope Bouret (1833–1906), a sculptor celebrated for his poetic and sentimental figures of the late 19th century.
