Amusing Japanese boxwood miniature mask, representing a stylized grotesque figure, probably Obeshimi.

In Japanese mythology and in the various forms of Japanese theater, the latter sometimes embodies one of the ten kings of the underworld.
But it most often represents a more generic evil spirit that prides itself on directly threatening mankind.
