Prosper Henri WIRTH (1869 / 1947), French painter.
Artist from Deuil, painter of landscapes, portraits, seascapes and mural paintings.
He is the author of the frescos of the town hall and the chapel of the same village in which he was a recognized personality.
Born in Paris on June 29, 1869 of a Luxembourgish father and French mother, he died in Deuil (Seine-et-Oise) on March 25, 1947.
Pupil of Gérome. He executed important orders of decorations. He decorated the pavilions of Luxembourg and the Parisian police force, at the international exhibition of 1937. He obtained various medals in Paris, Brussels, Milan, London, Turin, Amsterdam, etc.
He painted many seascapes with the Breton coast as a theme: La baie des trépassés (The Bay of the Dead), Au port de Belle-Île (The Port of Belle-Île), Moulin au Diben (The Mill at Diben) near Plougasnou, Hameau de Trégastel (The Hamlet of Trégastel), as well as Mediterranean seascapes.
We also owe him some historical scenes of an academic style, contrary to his seascapes influenced by impressionism.
