Louis XIII

Louis XIII style objects and furniture

In fact, the Louis XIII style  1589 to 1661 actually began under Henri IV who encouraged craftsmen. The style is sobre, geometic even austere, with thick heavy mouldings and decorations and much use of turned legs and joined stretchers. The woods used are mostly local  with the use of veneer and ebony decoration.
The period sees the first console tables and the first armoires.
