Narcisse Henocque (1879-1952) was born on December 15, 1879 in Mont-Saint-Argnon. As a young boy painting in his garden, he caught the attention of Joseph Delattre who immediately recognized his talent and encouraged him to join Delattre’s L’Academie Libre”.  Under Delattre’s tutelage, Henocque developed a unique style of expressing the subtle movement of the sky and the ever changing surface of the sea.Narcisse Henocque is recognized as an excellent colorist who conveyed the atmosphere with great sensitivity and spontaneity.  He was very reserved, never pushing himself onward for acclaim.  He exhibited with the Salon des Artistes Rouennais in 1907. At the age of 32, he had his premiere exhibition at Galerie Legrip where he would later meet and establish a lifelong friendship with Jean Dufy.  Henocque exhibited at Swansea in 1914, and two of his paintings were purchased by the Musee de Rouen.  His preferred subjects were the Normandy countryside, flowers and the Seine.  Henocque continued to paint and exhibit with the Rouen artists until his death on May 21, 1952.
