Jean Desbrosses, son of a coachman in the rue des Saussaies in Paris, is the brother of the sculptor Joseph Desbrosses and the painter and engraver Léopold Desbrosses.
He is the pupil of Ary Scheffer and Antoine Chintreuil, of which he prefaced a work which was devoted to him, The Life and the work of Chintreuil ,.
He is part with Georges de Lafage-Laujol of the cenacle of Pont-de-Vaux, animated by the painter Antoine Chintreuil.
Landscape painter, he exhibited at the Salon of French artists between 1861 and 19062.
