​​​​​​​Louis-Hilaire Carrand ( Lyon, August 23, 1821 - Lyon, 13 November 1899 ) was a French painter of the second half of the nineteenth century.François Auguste Ravier Vernay and he formed a small group of painters near Lyon School of Barbizon1. Regarded as a direct precursor of the Impressionists, he looks like them to theories of Chevreul and convenient juxtaposition of paintings keys. However, unlike the Impressionists who prefer light and bright atmosphere, Carrand is attracted by the misty atmospheres, gray and silver tones associated spring or fall, the effects of light at dawn and dusk. He mainly painted the Lyon countryside, the landscape of the Bresse and the Monts du Lyonnais.
