Napoleon III

Napoleon III style objects and furniture

The Napoleon III style covers the late 19th C. It is an eclectic style borrowing from all preceding periods.  Industrialisation has led to new methods and new materials such as paper-mache.  The furniture is often in veneer and richly  decorated with a return to Boulle marquetry,  vernis Martin or black lacquer. Parisian cabinet-makers gather in the Faubourg St Antoine to sell to the emerging middle classes. It is in this period that nests of tables appear.
