Transition

Transition style objects and furniture

The Transition style (approximately 1750-1774) , as its name indicates, marks the transition between the extravagence of the Louis XV period and the return to the more classic style of Louis XVI.  It is a return to straight lines, perfect symmetry and a respect for proportions.   The bronze decorations are inspired by  Antique Greece. The "sauteuse" chest of drawers is typical of the style.  New furniture includes the bureau, the secretaire and the bonheur du jour.
