The French sideboard, or "enfilade", is a long,  low,  piece of furniture.  It differs from the low buffet in that it comprises at least three doors.  It can be rustic or sophisticated, painted or in precious woods, with marble or wood top and is found in all the styles of the 18th and 19th Centuries.  The 20th C saw the arrival of the  Art Deco style sideboard and, after the Second World War,  the Scandinavian sideboard in teak - now a popular vintage item.
