Oriental objects and porcelain appeared in France during the reign of Louis XIV when they were imported by the East India Company.   Japanese and Chinese furniture, objects and paintings were plentiful at Versailles under the reign of Louis XV and Louis XVI.  The last quarter of  the 19th C saw a passion for all that was Japanese with objects such as netsuke, ivory figures, and bronze bouddhas filling the display cabinets of collectors.
