Cartonnier

Find a cartonnier

The cartonnier is an early form of filing cabinet comprising compartments containing leather-fronted cardboard boxes.
It first appeared under Louis XVI and became popular under Louis Philippe, especially in the offices of lawyers and notaries.
Some cartonniers have a system of central locking where a  piece of wood swivels and locks so as to block all the boxes.
