Find an antique armoire

The armoire is a large multi-functional cupboard. It is a classic of French furniture, found in all rooms of the house, not only as a wardrobe in the bedroom.  It is usually fitted with shelves and drawers and often the interior is lined.  Made mainly   in indigenous woods, armoires range from the simple to the very ornate depending upon its period or region.  The Louis XVI armoire is oppulent whereas the Louis Philippe armoire has simpler lines and less decoration.  Normand and Breton armoires have their own particular style as do those from Lorraine or Provence.  The armoire was a prized possession in many homes and the armoire de marriage was often a customised present for newly weds, richly carved with fertility symbols.
