Animal bronzes

Find a bronze animal

The 19th and early 20th centuries was the golden age for animal bronzes.  The technical progres made by Achille Colas led to founderies being opened all over Paris in the mid-19th C such as Barbedienne and Susse Freres.   France became the center of mass produced animal bronzes especially those by artists such as Barye (1746-1875).  Domestic and savage animals, birds and game were all popular themes.  In the early 20th C artists rebelled against mass production and numbered limited editions appeared.
