Description

Three miniatures on vellum, executed in watercolour, depicting three members of the same family, circa 1805–1820:

a young man in a black coat with a high Empire collar,
an elderly woman in a white bonnet and red shawl,
a young woman in a white Empire-style dress.
The frames are period Restauration / Charles X frames in blackened wood with gilt banding.

Inscriptions on the reverse
Notably legible are:

"Jeanne Cugnier"
"Madame Clerget"
"mère de Jacques Toussaint Clerget"
"ce portrait a été peint en 1811"
and on the others:

"Jacques Toussaint Clerget"
"A. Gay"
These early annotations provide a genuine family provenance, which is a significant added value.

The costumes, technique, frames and backing papers are all consistent with a date of circa 1810–1815.

The inscription "peint en 1811"
