Bedside tables

Find a bedside table

The bedside table is a small table placed beside the bed. It usually comprises a drawer and a lower door opening on a compartment where the chamber pot was kept.  They can be simple or decorated in bronze and gold leaf, with a either a wooden  or  a marble top.  During the Empire period  the "somno" was very popular, this is a  bedside table in the shape of a cylinder.  Where double beds are concerned it is usual to have a bedside table on each side of the bed, hence the demand for pairs of antique bedside tables.
